Thanks to everyone who came out to run or support the Cambridge High School Cross Country "Trail Blazer 5K" which was held on Saturday, September 29, 2012. The rain held out for the 100 runners who braved the hills between the Hopewell MS and Cogburn Woods ES property. It was a great opportunity for our Cross Country athletes to shine. They were cheered on by Head Coach Melissa Massey along with parents and friends. Assistant Coach, Katie Boehm, swept the course to make sure no one was left behind.
The race would not have been possible without the help of our Cross Country parents! A special thank you to Coach Matthew Chestnut, from Alpha Crush Running Club, for assisting with timing and results, the Barber Family for donating cookie cakes from Great American Cookie and Katherine Wickliffe for arranging all donations. Cambridge's own, Jake Barber, designed the inaugural race t-shirt.
The Overall female winner was Leah Campolong from Cambridge's Cross Country Team with a time of 22:43.91. Christopher Costa, from Sequoyah High School, was our Overall male winner with a time of 17:25.59. Lara Urtuzuastgui (28:21.93) and Sam Newcomer (20:25.93) were our Masters Winners. All four winners received a gift certificate to Georgia Sports Massage.
All proceeds from the race will fund the construction and maintenance of the running trail at the new school. The trail will benefit all sports teams as well as the Alpharetta/Milton communities.
