The Cambridge Lady Bears Volleyball team faced tough opposition in the Region 7 AAAAA playoffs, but an early, critical win over a fierce River Ridge team secured a berth for the Bears in the State Tournament – a first in Cambridge history.

In 9 sets of regional play, Freshman Sterling Hines recorded a whopping 28 kills and 45 digs – showcasing defensive and offensive skills throughout the series. The Bears were recognized with multiple region honors. Coach Johnson was named 7 AAAAA South Coach of the Year, Hines was named 7 AAAAA South Player of The Year, and along with team mates Sophomores Regan Swift and Lauren Swift, and Freshman Shelby Luxton, was named to the All-Region Team.

Lauren Swift also recorded double-digit kills – earning 21 in the series – while Regan Swift delivered 17 kills and Freshman Anna Youngs added 15. Freshman Setter Shelby Luxton tallied an impressive 39 assists, and Sophomore Olivia Hansen delivered 35 assists. On the defensive front, Freshman Anna Youngs recorded 46 digs, followed by Hines with 45 digs, Lauren Swift with 26, Shelby Luxton with 24 digs and Junior Eileen Hardy with 21 digs.

Olivia Hansen served up 5 aces, followed by Anna Youngs, Sterling Hines and Shelby Luxton with 4 aces each and Junior Madison Ulman posting 2 aces.

The Bears face off against the Druid Hills Red Devils tonight, Thursday, Oct. 16th at 6pm.
