Lady Bears Hand BT First Loss of Season
Resilience.
If there's one word to describe the Cambridge Lady Bears Varsity soccer team this season, it's "resilience."
The Lady Bears have responded to every obstacle or poor performance this season with championship-level fight.
Two weeks ago, Blessed Trinity controlled every aspect of their match against Cambridge, winning 3-0.
How would the Lady Bears respond in their regional rematch?
They responded with one of their most complete matches of the season.
The Lady Bears traveled to BT and earned a hard-fought 2-0 victory. The loss was BT's first of the season.
It was a chippy and well-contested match from the beginning. BT got some quality shots off, but Anna Cate Servine was a brick wall under the Friday Night Lights, making multiple incredible saves.
Despite owning most of the possession, the Lady Bears weren't creating much in the final third. The game went to the half tied 0-0.
Just as they have done most of the season though, the coaches adjusted at halftime and the Lady Bears began creating quality chances.
Finally early in the second half, the girls broke through. Peyton Tansy delivered a great ball to the diabolical Reed Tingley, who took it the house, putting the Lady Bears up 1-0.
BT fought hard though, and the Lady Bears needed their goalkeeper and defense to step up.
And did they ever.
If Hope Solo thinks she's among the best goalies ever, on Friday Night Anna Cate Servine said, "Hold my Stanley." Making Matrix-like saves, reacting to shots off the post, and denying shots with her finger tips, Servine was pure fire.
The defense came up massive too. Sienna Solomonson was unstoppable, shutting down multiple counter attacks. The indestructible Regan Tingley will need to ice all weekend after a bruising physical performance. Katie Coutu and Petyon Tansy provided crushing tackles and key passes all night.
Still, the Lady Bears needed some breathing room. That came in the form of an awesome individual effort from Chandler Browning. The senior drilled a perfect shot from about 18 yards out, securing the 2-0 victory.
Lastly, the Lady Bears welcomed Maddie Ward back to the field. The two-time first team All-Region senior suffered an ACL injury late last season and stepped on the field for the first time in almost a year.
With the win, the Lady Bears improve to 7-3-0 for the season and 3-1-0 in region. According to Scorbord's coach's poll, they've now beaten teams who were ranked #2, #2, and #1 at the time in their respective regions.
The Lady Bears reload and play Westminster at home at 6pm this Tuesday.
