Lady Bears Defeat Westminster 4-3 to Start Region Play!
The Cambridge Lady Bears started region play on Thursday night, defeating Westminster 4-3 in a thrilling match.
Scoring started off midway through the first half, with Reed Tingley taking a pass from Piper Preiss and finding the back of the net. A few minutes later, Reed fired a rocket from 18 yards out to put the Lady Bears up 2-0.
It looked like the Lady Bears were going to cruise to an easy victory. And then things got interesting.
Westminster woke up and poured it on. The Wild Cats scored three goals in four minutes to close out the first half. Despite long, strong stretches of play, Cambridge found themselves trailing 2-3 at halftime.
The Lady Bears came out on a mission though in the second half. Controlling possession and asserting themselves on offense, the Lady Bears bombarded Westminster with shot after shot. It took awhile to find the elusive equalizer, but Maddi Klingenspor did just that to level the game 3-3.
Since no region games can end in ties, two 10-minute overtimes came next. Extra time was played open and end-to-end. Westminster created some excellent chances, but Anna Cate Servine kept Cambridge out of trouble.
Speaking of trouble, Reed Tingley showed up yet again, smashing a game winner in the first over-time period.
The fantastic freshman earned her first of likely many hattricks in her high school career.
Assists tonight were provided by Piper Preiss and Reed Tingley.
The Lady Bears reload and play again on Friday, February 28th at home vs Pope at 6pm.
