Lady Bears Earn Hard Fought Win in Rivalry Match vs Milton
The annual "Milton Derby" between Cambridge and Milton is always a battle, and this year was no different.
On a cold and rainy night, the Lady Bears held off the War Eagles to secure a 2-1 win. The Lady Bears stay perfect for the season, improving to 2-0-0.
The match was tightly contested, with both sides struggling to find quality shots early on. That changed with 11 minutes remaining in the first half. Senior forward Chandler Browning had an outrageous run through the Milton defense, ultimately firing an inch-perfect cross to Piper Preiss. Senior forward Preiss headed home the effort, putting Cambridge up 1-0.
As temperatures dropped in the second half, the game became more physical and quality shots tougher to find. That changed when Freshman forward Reed Tingley took on the entire Milton backline, calmly slotting home a finish to put the Lady Bears up 2-0.
Junior goalie Anna Cate Servine made an Alison Becker-quality kick-save to deny Milton on a breakaway, preserving Cambridge's two goal lead. Milton, however, eventually found the back of the net, closing the gap to 2-1. Servine totaled 8 saves in an impressive showing.
The Lady Bears next match is 6pm on Thursday the 13th @ South Forsyth.
