TRACK & FIELD TEAM ADVANCES LARGE CONTINGENT TO STATE MEET

TRACK & FIELD TEAM ADVANCES LARGE CONTINGENT TO STATE MEET
GOOD MORNING SPORTS FANS!

On Saturday, May 3, the Cambridge track & field team competed at one of two 4A state sectional meets at North Oconee High School. What was at stake was a trip to the state meet later this week for the top eight in each event.

Cambridge's team is an experienced squad, along with a number of talented newcomers. The task was not insurmountable as at the end of the day, the Bears had advanced the largest contingent of boys and girls to the state meet ever since the establishment of the school a little more than a decade ago. That history also includes two second place finishes for the girls (2019 and 2023) and a tie for sixth (2023) for the boys. Those are the highest finishes in track and field for the school and the team is collectively aiming to work hard this week to revise that piece of school history at the state meet at East Jackson High School.

There were a number of superlative performances at the sectional meet, including three school records established. An overview of the student athletes that will compete at state later this week include:

Lilah Versluis - long jump, high jump, 100 meter hurdles (ninth best time in school history) and triple jump (establishing a new school record).

Kai McCarley - 400 meters (10th best time in school history) and 200 meters (fifth best time in school history).
