On March 11-13, the Cambridge track & field team went to Columbus, Georgia to compete in the Georgia High School Association state championship. When the three days had ended, the girls team finished in second place (tying the highest finish since 2019 and scoring the most points) and the boys finished in a tie for sixth place (the highest finish and point totals). The team also won two state titles and set three school records.
On the first two days of the state meet, the girls team was the front runners of the meet. They were led by Julia Versluis and Lilah Versluis. Julia won the state pole vault; finished tied for third in the high jump; and third in the triple jump. Lilah Versluis won the triple jump and finished second in the high jump. For the boys, Noah Bollenbacher finished seventh in pole vault.
After a day of preliminary running events, the final day consisted of the drive for the state title. The girls were paced by Gabrielle Dandridge running a strong race to finish second in the 400 meters. The girls 4x200 meter relay team (Nina Campbell/Kai McCarley/ Alexandria Hunt/Gabrielle Dandridge) finished in sixth place and set a new school record. The girls 4x400 meter relay team (Nina Campbell/Jacqueline Greyenbuhl/Logan Huddle/Gabrielle Dandridge) raced to a fifth place finish.
The boys were led by the hurdling duo of Ibrahim Bangura (third in the 110 meter hurdles in a school record time and fourth in the 300 meter hurdles - personal record) and Dominick Lawshea ( third in the 300 meter hurdles and sixth in the 110 meter hurdles. Dillon Shin ran a strong race to finish sixth in the 1600 meters. Brandon Moss sprinted to an eighth place finished in the 100 meters. The boys 4x400 meter relay teams (Dominick Lawshea/Noah Bollenbacher/Dillon Shin/Preston Clemmer) finished in sixth place in a school record time.
The team celebrated as the second place trophy was presented. Thanks to each of you that supported our efforts this season. Note: Some of the athletes will compete on Saturday at Georgia Tech for the Night of Champions meet.
