Cambridge vs Central Forsyth - Fri. Oct. 11
The Cambridge Lady Bears had to win in the first game on Friday Oct. 11 against the Central Forsyth Lady Bulldogs in order to stay alive in the Regional 7AAAAA Tournament. And win is just what they did in a solid performance to shutout the Bulldogs in 5 innings by a score of 8-0.
The Lady Bears managed to put runs on the board in all 5 innings, while the defense totally shutdown their opponent. It was a solid performance for the Bears again on the mound as Keara Napoli held the Bulldogs to only 2 hits. The Lady Bears simply laid down the hits consistently, and with aggressive base running, turned in a fine performance.
Head Coach Chip Flemmer says "I am extremely proud of how these girls have played all season. Each game you can see their confidence growing. This is a team that people will want to follow."
The Lady Bears advanced to the final round against the Pope Greyhounds in the late game, but more importantly, secured their position in State Sectionals next week as the #4 seed.
Cambridge vs Pope - Fri. Oct. 11
In the second game on Friday evening, the Lady Bears squared off against the Pope Lady Greyhounds for the third time this season.
The prior two meetings against the Greyhounds, the Bears were defeated, and this outing would be no different. While this game had no meaning for our placement in the next round of the State Tournament other than bragging rights on being the Regional Champs, the Lady Bears struggled and took their worse loss of the season by a 9-0 score.
Credit is definitely due to the Lady Greyhounds as they took it to the Bears early and never allowed the Bears to get anything going. The Lady Greyhounds Kelly Barnhill pitched a no-hitter and shut things down in 5 innings.
Congratulations to the Pope Greyhounds for taking 1st place in the Regional tournament. The loss did nothing to the Lady Bear's placement in the State Sectional Tournament beginning next week.
The Lady Bears, the Region 7-#4 seed, will travel to play the Region 5-#1 seed, Allatoona Lady Buccaneers, on Wednesday, Oct. 16th & Thursday, Oct. 17th. First pitch should be 5:00 p.m. They will play a best 2 out of 3 series, with the winner advancing to the next round to take on either Loganville or Dunwoody.
Congratulations to our Cambridge Lady Bears on making their first State Tournament!
