Cambridge JV Bears Suffer Tough Loss to Northview High School

The Cambridge JV men's lacrosse team lost a nail biter 6-4 against the Northview High School Titans on Tuesday April 23rd.

The Bears played their best game of the season and were in it to win it until the very end.  The first half saw the Cambridge defense playing strong and holding off the Titans attack.  This defensive effort was led by Chase Darnell and by goalie Branch Morley, who had 6 saves in the first half alone.  The Bears offense went toe to toe with Northview on face offs and ground balls.  One key ground ball near the cage by Miles Copeland led to a pass and then a shot and score by Michael Pellegrino from the top.
The entire Cambridge offense came out shooting in the second half, started by near misses by Chris Anderson, Trent Wilson and then Chase Darnell.  Cory Harrison was a quiet but steady performer on face offs and defense.  Then another key ground ball – picked up this time by Peter Knapp – and clear led to another shot and near miss – this time by Copeland.  A slash call against NHS on the play gave the Bears a man advantage – and take advantage they did with a top shelf goal by Pellegrino.
In the 4th quarter, CHS's Nick Sa hit the back of the net to bring the Bears within one – but then the Titans answered right back with a goal of their own.   The rest of the game was a back and forth nail biter.  Zach Lodigensky and Nick Sa played a great game.  So did the Northview goalie, stopping quality shots by Brett Manning and Pellegrino.  Eric Cizek was able to get the ball past the keeper, bringing the score to 5-4 Northview with 5 minutes left.  A missed penalty against Anderson would have given the Bears a man advantage and chance to tie the score.  But a change of possession and pressure defense led to the final Titan goal, earning them the 6-4 win.
