The Cambridge Bears Boys Varsity Golf team captured the 5AAAAA GHSA State Championship title Monday, May 18th, at Columbus Country Club. The team competed against the top golf teams in the state and scored an impressive 290 as a team to win the state championship by 2 strokes.
The Bears were led by Senior and University of South Carolina-commit Ryan Stachler who shot a 2-under par 69 to cap a great career at Cambridge. Junior Austin Redick and Sophomore Brad Plaziak shot impressive 73's that were critical to the outcome, and Junior Sutton Dunwoodie and Freshman Andrew Ackerman came in with 75's equally critcal as well. Sophomore Robbie Bentley shot an 81.
"The boys played their best at the right time, when it counted at State. I am very proud of this group, to win a state championship things have to fall into place and they certainly did yesterday" said Head Coach Peter Vajda. The team returns all but one player next year, so the future is bright for Cambridge Bear Boys Golf.
This makes back-to-back years that Cambridge High School has won a GHSA Golf State Championship. The Girls Varsity team won the State title last year.
Congratulations to the 2015 Boys Varsity GHSA 5AAAAA State Champions!
