Final Friday Night Home Games for Cambridge Basketball Tonight, Jan. 23rd

Final Friday Night Home Games for Cambridge Basketball Tonight, Jan. 23rd

Tonight is a big night for Cambridge hoops as all 5 teams get the action started at 4:30 p.m., against Riverwood.

The junior varsity boys and girls begin play at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity girls and freshman boys at 6:00 p.m., and the varsity boys tip off at 7:30 p.m.

Cambridge High School will also be honoring several seniors.

Ali LoPiccolo is the lone senior for the girls varsity team.  Coach Lesley Broadwell says Ali has mean everything to starting up the program from day 1.  "She is a good player and the perfect example of a true student-athlete but an even better person and exactly the type of person I want associated with our program.  She is someone whom not only the other girls on the team admire and love, but also young girls throughout the community can aspire to become.  We have been blessed to have her help build this program for these 3 years."

The boys' varsity team has 8 seniors this year.  Coach Chip Flemmer says this Riverwood game is a big one for the team.  "This is senior night and we will be honoring our eight seniors who have all been in our program for all three years.  The Raiders are on the top of our sub-region so this game is really important to our hopes of making it to the state tournament."

Flemmer says the team has had a lot of positive moments this season.  "Seniors Emerson McClung and Jordan Sloter have led the way for the Bears, while Brawley Thomas, Nithin Balaji and Neill Christian have also played a big role on the court.  Danny Frontman, Kayode Abedisi, and Alex Marion have also been in the Cambridge basketball program for 3 years.  Flemmer says Danny is one of the hardest working players in the program.  He says Alex is someone who can come off of the bench and his some 3-pointers to give the team a big lift.  Flemmer also says Kayode is a very athletic player who brings a shot-blocking presence to the court and has really improved his game in the last 3 years.

Flemmer says this team is able to compete with anyone.  "We have done a lot of great things, but I am hoping down the stretch that we are more consistent on both ends of the court.  With our roster having so much experience we need to take advantage and do a better job of finishing teams off in close games."

The Bears are 3rd in their sub-region and looking at this weekend to get some momentum started for a big run at the region tournament and hopefully into state.

We're expecting a great turnout so make plans to cheer on your Bears in the Cambridge gym.  Several youth campers from Coach Broadwell's summer basketball camp will also be in attendance tonight. It will be an action-packed night.

Go Bears!
