Hot Bats, Great Pitching Highlight 10th Straight Victory for Cambridge Varsity Baseball over North Springs

Hot Bats, Great Pitching Highlight 10th Straight Victory for Cambridge Varsity Baseball over North Springs

The Cambridge bats stayed hot in a region matchup versus North Springs at Cambridge HS on Monday, March 28th.  Five extra base hits, including two a piece by Cameron Moore and Bradley Wiedman, led the offensive charge.  Austin Weiermiller stymied the North Springs bats, allowing only a swinging bunt for the sole hit given up by the junior lefty on the evening.  The Bears were methodical this game, scoring at least a run in every inning.

After a 1-2-3 inning by Weiermiller in the top of the first, Cambridge would score two runs in the bottom of the inning without the benefit of a hit.  Pete Gottschalk would hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Davis Dasher, who had walked.  Bradley Wiedman would also walk and come around to score on an error to make the score 2-0.  In the second, Moore had a double to right and would later score on a balk.   A Hayden Onorato walk and Jacob Cabe single would make the score 4-0 in the third.

Wiedman led off the fourth with a double and would later score on a steal of home.  Onorato walked and would come around to score on a Luke Foote triple to push the score to 6-0.  Doubles by Moore and Wiedman would plate yet another run in the fifth.  A Moore single in the sixth drove home Sam Waylock to end the scoring.

Weiermiller was nearly perfect on the evening, allowing a scratch hit and no runs with 8 strikeouts and no walks in six innings of work.  Hayden Onorato worked a scoreless seventh.  Cameron Moore paced the Bears offense, getting four hits in as many at bats.  He also scored twice.  Bradley Wiedman had a pair of doubles and scored twice. Onorato also scored a pair of runs.

The Bears continue region play with a game Wednesday, March 30th at North Springs HS.  Game time is 5:55 PM.

Go Bears!
