Samuel Hines comes to Cambridge after playing 16 years of professional basketball around the world.
A native of Wilson, North Carolina, Coach Hines played basketball at Chipola Junior College in Florida and the University of South Alabama. He played basketball professionally in the United States with the United States Basketball League and the Continental Basketball Association. However, he found most of his professional success abroad playing in Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, Poland, France, Cyprus, Israel, Italy and Switzerland. Coach Hines played basketball for six years in Italy, and in 2009, he was inducted into the Italian Cantu basketball Hall of Fame.
Coach Hines spends a lot of time coaching and developing programs for youth basketball and contributes to the community by reaching out to young kids who need help. Coach Hines currently conducts Up With Kids Sports, Inc. (UWKS), a youth program designed to provide instruction in fundamental basketball skills. He also runs the Securing a Mind Foundation (Sam-F), a non-profit organization which develops enrichment programs for economically disadvantaged youth. Coach Hines believes the mission of both UWKS and SAM-F is to educate, elevate and empower our youth.
Coach Hines has been married for 15 years to Ellen K. Hines, who is from Richmond, Virginia. They have a son and daughter. Coach Hines enjoys spending time with his family, shooting basketball, singing, playing pool and table tennis, golfing, and watching movies.
