The last home football game of the season at Cambridge will mean a lot of things to a lot of people this Friday night. Homecoming festivities, sponsors being honored, senior recognition...one last time for the people to come together for the inaugural varsity football team. It will also be a time to come together for a family in need.
Milton assistant battling stage IV cancer
Milton offensive line and strength coach Mike Scott was diagnosed with cancer this month and given six to eight months to live.
Several fundraising efforts have been planned throughout the Milton community and in Fulton County to help with medical costs, including the sale of "Lift Up Coach Scott" wrist bands for $5 at Milton High School. These same wrist bands will be sold at the Cambridge Varsity Football game Friday night. Donations will also be able to be made during the football game at the concession stand and throughout the stadium at Cambridge. You can also contribute by going to GiveForward.com.
Coach Scott has stage IV Adenocarcinoma that began in his pancreas and spread to his liver and lungs.
"The kids are using the mantra of 'Stay Scottstrong,'" says Milton Athletics Director Gary Sylvestri, which was reported in an article to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution. "They are rallying behind him, want him to keep fighting. Their reaction really shows how much Coach Scott meant to this team."
Scott is an Ohio native who has coached several years in college football, including stops at Kentucky, Central Florida, West Alabama and West Georgia.
We look forward to seeing you Friday night and welcome your donations for this family in our community.
